Veramonte Merlot 2009
Merlot from the Veramonte estate in Chile's cool Casablanca Valley gets seriously long hang-time which intensifies both the gorgeous purple color and intensity on the palate. This cool climate wine is one of Chile's only true Merlots, which accounts for its structure and purity of fruit. Many of Chile's vineyards are planted to a mixture of Merlto and Carmenère, an old Bordeaux varietal that was originally believed to be Merlot in Chile. Appearance: Dark, inky red Aroma: Rich blackberry and cherry aromas spiced with black pepper and tobacco, hints of eucalyptus and mint, and a subtle underlay of oak. Flavor: Youthful dark fruit aromas with hints of chocolate, pepper and toasted oak. Rich and full of generous berry flavors with velvety smooth tannins that cool the palate.
