Ramos Pinto Tawny Port Quinta do Bom Retiro 20 Year
The Quinta do Bom Retiro exists in a unique setting in the world, the Douro. Extended in the 18th century by Luís Beleza de Andrade, one of the founders of the Pombaline Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro, and bought in 1919 by Casa Ramos Pinto, this Quinta is one of the oldest and most typical in the region, still conserving the uniqueness of its original architecture, as well as the beauty and wealth of its landscape. From the time it was acquired and up to the present day it is one of the privileged sites to receive guests. Surrounded by traditional vines, the Quinta do Bom Retiro lies in the heart of a sumptuous garden built many decades ago, with a swimming pool which is one of the oldest in the Douro and fruit and exotic trees brought from different corners of the world. Wine producing characteristics The Quinta do Bom Retiro is located in the Douro region, sub-region of Cima Corgo, in the parish of Valença do Douro, Pinhão, and it is washed by the waters of the river Torto. It occupies a total surface area of 109 ha, which vary between an altitude of 110 and 400 metres, 62 ha of which are covered by vines, in which are planted close to 194 500 vine stalks the average age of which is approximately 25 years old. The varieties produced here are exclusively red, and, in addition to the 20% mixture, 25% of the planted area belongs to the Tinta Barroca variety, 15% to Touriga Franca, 20% to Tinta Roriz and 20% to Touriga Nacional.
